The art of leadership is saying no, not saying yes. It is very easy to say yes.

"The art of leadership is saying no, not saying yes. It is very easy to say yes."
Tony Blair Prime Minister of United Kingdom 1997-2007

It means that being a leader you have to have your own idea, opinion or way of doing things. You don't just say yes to someone's opinion. As a leader you should be thinking of the best possible ideas or way of doing things. You can say yes and agree to others, but makes sure this is the best possible idea.

Example:

You're a restaurant manager, one of your crews ask you to give him a Monday day-off. Without him saying the reason you have to say No. You have to say No because you are a leader and you have planned work schedule. Then he might tell you the reason why he ask you for this day off. depending on the validity of his reason you might say yes.

That's the art of leadership.

This quote is memorable to me because one of my colleague ask me how to explain this. He is going to the briefing and expecting to be ask about this quote.
